My primary interest, in scholarship and teaching, is nonviolent social movements. I am particularly interested in grassroots movements for racial, gender, and economic justice in the United States. I grew up in Connecticut, taught for twenty years at Manchester University in Indiana, then moved back to New England in 2016 to teach at USM. I live with my partner and three children, and in my spare time I read, swim, follow current events, support our public schools, and visit my extended family.
