Dr. Joly is a Professor in the Public Health Program at the USM Muskie School of Public Service. Her research focuses on determining the success of public health interventions, an area for which she is nationally recognized. She has led several national evaluation teams and her work includes efforts with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Network of Public Health Institutes. She is currently leading the evaluation of a $20 million federally funded initiative known as the Northern New England Clinical and Translational Research Network led by Maine Medical Center and the University of Vermont’s School of Medicine.

Dr. Joly has been with USM since 2005. Prior to her faculty appointment, she served as a Research Associate at the Maine Center for Public Health.

Currently, she teaches graduate courses related to research, evaluation, and health determinants. Dr. Joly also oversees student captones and works with graduate students in an applied practice course. Her teaching at the undergraduate level focuses on a public health foundational course and a research methods seminar.
