Dr. Catherine Lyden began her nursing journey in Auckland, New Zealand. Cathy practiced in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the US prior to settling in Maine. She discovered her passion for teaching, and completed a Master of Nursing Education, while teaching part-time at USM. She is a proud Alumni having graduated in 2012 with her MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) degree. In 2017 following graduation with her PhD in Nursing from Duquesne University she returned to USM, as an Assistant Professor of Nursing. Her scholarly interest focuses on education of graduate nurses, the role of the NP, and interprofessional education. She teaches in the nurse practitioner program and introduced simulation and OSCE, to assist students to develop advanced practice skills and diagnostic reasoning. She teaches primary health care of the adult and clinical practicum classes to the family nurse practitioner students..
