James Clark studied Trumpet Performance at the University of New Hampshire under Robert Stibler, Tom Palance and Clark Terry. His performances encompass an array of genres, including classical, jazz, soul, and contemporary original music. His talent has led to collaborations with several orchestras across New England, as well as Boston-based dance and jazz bands.
James is a dedicated private teacher who has imparted his knowledge and experience to students at prestigious institutions like St. Paul’s School, Phillips Exeter Academy and others throughout New England. His mentorship extends beyond the classroom, as he actively leads jazz ensembles, and teaches private lessons.
James is a versatile and accomplished freelance multi-instrumentalist, but his first love is the trumpet. Throughout his career, his performances have taken him across borders, with notable engagements across America and Europe including the Latvian National Opera House and Shostakovich Hall. He has performed alongside renowned jazz artists such as Carmen Bradford, Bob Mintzer, Gordon Goodwin, Wayne Burgeron and Rick Baptist. He plays lead trumpet with the Portland Jazz Orchestra and the Seacoast Big Band and performs regularly with the Portsmouth Symphony.
Most recently he has embarked on an original project with his trio O’Donnell, Klaxton & Clark. These collaborations have enriched his musical journey, providing him with valuable insights and experiences that he eagerly shares with his students.
