Dr. Qualls is on sabbatical during the Fall 2024 semester.

Dr. Jeremy Qualls is a Professor of Physics and will also be teaching in the Department of Engineering. He served as the Dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health for six years. As Dean, Dr. Qualls led fourteen academic programs as well as many cross-interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial programs. Dr. Qualls fostered extensive growth and innovation within the college. This growth was bolstered by new collaborations with local businesses and generous support from private donors. USM’s research infrastructure and STEM pipeline programs are transforming to provide cutting-edge experiences and opportunities.

Some of the new programs and infrastructure Dr. Qualls helped bring into CSTH include; the Composite Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL), The Michael E. Dubyak Center for Digital Science and Innovation, Advanced Products Innovation and Science (APIS), STEM summer camps, and the Boyne Family Advanced Simulation Center. Concentrating on academic excellence, scholarship, and entrepreneurship for the Southern Maine region, CSTH is quickly redefining what was once thought possible.

As a physicist and material scientist, Dr. Qualls has pioneered work on novel electronic ground states and interdisciplinary pedagogy. His work has led to numerous publications and major grant-funded research projects. He is currently active in product development and prototyping.
