John Sutyak is the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreation at the University of Southern Maine. He has more than two decades of professional experience in Athletic Administration, including coaching, conference operations and athletic communications.
Prior to joining USM he was the Director of Athletics at Husson University in Bangor, Maine for two years. Prior to Husson, he spent three and a half years as the Director of Athletics at Ferrum College (Virginia) and eight years as the Director of Athletics & Recreation at Wheaton College (Massachusetts). At both Husson and Ferrum, John served the campus community as a member of the Presidential Cabinet. During his tenure at Wheaton, he also served as President of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference for two years.
Prior to his Athletic Director positions, John served in administrative capacities at both Wheaton and Yale University. He also served as an assistant baseball coach at Western New England University for two seasons while in graduate school. As an undergraduate, John was a four-year member of the Wheaton College baseball team and a part of its first two conference championships and its first NCAA baseball tournament appearance.
