Katelyn K (Kate) Foley is a Lecturer in Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences. Most recently she worked for a high-end retirement community as the Fitness Manager with responsibilities including program design, personal training, instructing fitness classes and supervising staff and contractors. She also was in charge of designing the interior of a new 4,000 sq ft fitness pavilion including choosing and ordering appropriate equipment and designing the layout of the space. Kate has also been an adjunct at Southern Maine Community College teaching in both the Health Sciences and Cardiovascular Technology programs.

Kate believes that every student learns differently and courses should be taught using multi-media tools. and that learning should be interactive and fun. She believes that technology and society are steering higher education to find ways to be more flexible with course designs and presentation of material. Her research interests are still being explored and developed. She has presented poster presentations at the ACSM national conferences in 2014 (A Comparison of Hip Flexibility of Female Collegiate Swimmers and Recreationally Active Non-Swimmers) and 2016 (Gender Differences in Performance of Equivalently Loaded Push-Up and Bench-Press Exercises) both of which she was first author.

Kate holds active memberships with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association (CEPA) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kate has been a personal trainer certified by the NSCA since 2008 and recertified with distinction in 2020 (NSCA-CPT*D). In her spare time, she enjoys running in road races, cycling, swimming, yoga and spending time with her husband Mike and daughters Zoƫ and Alice.
