Katie joined the VUB team in May of 2024 bringing with her a vast array of knowledge and experience. A proud Navy veteran, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Western Washington University inspired by her role as an Educational Petty Officer during bootcamp. She later pursued a Juris Doctor and is a member of the Texas State Bar. Most recently, her love of writing has led her to complete a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Katie’s educational benefits from her military association have helped her every step of the way.
Her book, Finding My Reflection: A Caregiver’s Perspective on Life Lessons Learned Too Late, is a collection of essays related to her late husband’s battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Because ALS is a 100% Service-Connected Disability and her husband was also a veteran, Katie is well acquainted with the complexity involved in navigating the Veterans Benefits Administration.
Katie’s history is comprised of jets, aircraft carriers, students, theatres, and courtrooms. She enjoys cycling, paddle boarding, and pretending she knows how to garden. She is happily settled in Maine with her menagerie – two dogs, one daughter, and three cats – one of whom is named Kevin.
