Policy Associate II: Child Welfare

Education

  • MSW, Social Work, University of New England
  • BM, Music Therapy, Queens University of Charlotte
  • LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, State of Maine

KC joined the Catherine Cutler Institute with a clear belief: the best policy is shaped by many voices — those who have done the work, witnessed its impact firsthand, and, perhaps most importantly, those most directly affected by it.

KC’s path to policy is wonderfully winding, and that’s exactly what makes her perspective valuable. She began her career as a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) before moving into direct work with children in intensive behavioral health settings, experiences that grounded her in meeting people where they are. From there, she went on to serve as a caseworker with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, serving in school settings as a mental health clinician and social worker, and working within the child welfare system to support children on their path to permanency. Along the way, she has coordinated and delivered professional training and continuing education events, developed workforce-facing resources, and contributed to statewide professional development and advocacy efforts — all driven by a deep and abiding passion for the well-being and safety of children.

KC holds a Master of Social Work from the University of New England and a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Maine. That interdisciplinary background — part clinician, part advocate, part educator — has run throughout her career and continues to shape how she approaches her work: with curiosity, attentiveness to the real lives behind the work, and a deep respect for the communities this work is meant to serve.

When not at work, you can find KC curled up with a good book, exploring the best vegan eats she can find, staying active, chasing sunsets, and enjoying time with her family — both two and four legged.
