Liz Carlson (she/her) is a director and dramaturg specializing in ensemble practice and new play development. She was the associate director of Curio Theatre Company and the Kenyon Playwrights Conference and is the current Artistic Director of the Maine Playwrights Festival.
Recent directing credits include Show Me Any Heaven by Callie Kimball (Portland Stage, Little Festival of the Unexpected), Texas by Liz Freeman and Come Dawn by Ron Capps (Maine Playwrights Festival), Elephant & Piggie and Go, Dog. Go! (Maddy’s Theatre), The Birds, War of the Worlds, and Into the Woods (USM), and the world premiere of Richard Dresser’s 100 Years (Troy Foundry Theatre). She has collaborated with companies throughout the northeast including Philadelphia Young Playwrights, Curio Theatre Company, Mauckingbird Theatre Company, Arden Theatre Company, Lantern Theatre, People’s Light (Philadelphia), Hudson Stage, Troy Foundry Theatre, Saratoga Shakespeare Company (New York), The Nora (Boston), Trinity Rep., The Manton Avenue Project (Providence), The Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine, Portland Stage, and The Public Theatre (Maine).
She has served on the theatre faculty at Temple University, Kenyon College, Rowan University, Bates College, and the University of Southern Maine. She lives in Maine with her husband, Gabe, and sons, Felix and Casper. She is a proud member of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) and associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC).
