For the past 24 years, I have taught at the University of Southern Maine in the School of Social Work. Regarding my teaching experience, I have taught in the following areas: social work practice, social welfare policy, research, fieldwork, and groupwork.

Prior to my academic career, I worked in New York City at Jewish Child Care Association from 1988 to 1995 and United Cerebral Palsy of New York State from 1986-1988. Before moving to the United States in 1986, I worked in Intake and Residential Social Work in the United Kingdom.

I have published extensively. I have co-authored three books, Collective Trauma and Human Suffering (Cognella, with St.Thomas and Sheffield); Empowering Children through Art and Expression (Jessica Kingsley, with Bruce St.Thomas); and Contemporary Field Social Work (Sage, with Doel and Shardlow). I have also co-edited two special editions of Groupwork (Whiting and Birch, with Wilson and Arches). I have also published over 50 articles. For the past 13 years, I have been a member of the Editorial Board of Groupwork
