Ryan is originally from South Portland and attended the University of Southern Maine for his undergraduate degree in Classical Humanities with a focus in Latin and Greek/Roman history and culture. After some time out of school, he realized he missed university life and enrolled in the Master of Education in Student Development in Higher Education program at the University of Maine. During his time in that program, he was able to travel to London for a summer internship.

He has extensive experience working in Residence Life, Student Activities, Study Abroad, and Academic Affairs at the departmental and college levels in Maine, Texas, and Massachusetts. Ryan returned to USM in January 2021, filling a temporary vacancy in Residential Life before moving on to the School of Nursing that summer and eventually landing in the Dean’s office in the College of Science, Technology, and Health, where he has been since the start of the 2022-2023 academic year. In addition to his experience at different colleges and universities, Ryan has considerable experience in both the retail and food and beverage industries.

Ryan is passionate about social justice, DEI, his two dogs (come see the photos on his office door!), reading, video games, table top games, and taking classes just to learn more. He earned a History degree at USM in 2024. He is also an active member of multiple Employee Affinity Network groups at USM. Ryan works mostly in Portland, but works from the Lewiston campus once per week and occasionally works from Gorham.
