Seth Rogoff, PhD

Seth Rogoff has been a part-time member of the History faculty at USM since 2013. He teaches a variety of online classes for the department, including HTY 101: World History to 750 CE, HTY 102: World History 750 to the Present, History of Modern Sport, Modern Russian History, and other upper-level elective courses. He completed his BA in Literature and History at Washington University in St. Louis, earned an MA at Duke University, and completed his PhD at the University of Amsterdam. He has also been a Fulbright Scholar in Berlin, Germany (2006-2007). Seth Rogoff is the author of The Politics of the Dreamscape, a cultural history of dreams and dream analysis, two translations of Franz Kafka’s work, and four novels, most recently The Castle (2024). Some of his other work includes co-authoring the memoir The Education of Kendrick Perkins (2023) and co-editing a collective of biblical retellings called Smashing the Tablets: Radical Retellings of the Hebrew Bible (2025). He co-edits the Kafka-themed Substack FRANZ and is currently writing a cultural history of basketball.
