Tina Nightingale, PhD

Tina Nightingale is a seasoned school counselor, licensed clinician, and counselor educator with over 19 years of experience supporting children, families, and emerging counselors. Originally from a small town in Canada and fluent in French, Tina brings a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens to both her clinical and educational work.

She served as an adjunct professor and advisor in the Counselor Education program at the University of Southern Maine, where she was recently offered a tenure-track Professor of  School Counseling position. In her teaching, Tina integrates a humanistic and trauma-informed approach while incorporating contemporary practices such as EMDR, polyvagal theory, and identity-affirming care.

Tina is deeply committed to mentorship, equity in education, and creating safe, inclusive learning environments. Her dissertation research explores the intersection of lockdown drills, students’ perceived safety, and school attendance, work she hopes will inform reform in school safety practices through a trauma-informed lens.

A passionate advocate for lifelong learning, Tina continues to pursue advanced training while supporting the development of future counselors through thoughtful supervision, mentorship, and leadership.
