Dr. Virginia Morales joins the Artist Faculty of the University of Southern Maine in Fall of 2024. A native of El Paso, Texas, Virginia is a freelance hornist and music educator in the Boston area. Prior to moving to Boston, she was a member of the El Paso Wind Symphony, and performed regularly with the Juarez Symphony (Chihuahua,MX), the El Paso Symphony, and the Roswell Symphony, in Roswell, New Mexico. In New England, Virginia frequently performs with orchestras such as the Portland Symphony, Vermont Symphony, Cape Symphony, the Plymouth Philharmonic, and the New Bedford Symphony.
Equally accomplished as a recitalist, she has performed as a soloist across the country, most recently in Boston, eastern Ohio, and Texas. Recent career highlights include winning third prize at the 2022 International Women’s Brass Conference Solo Horn Competition. As a chamber musician, Virginia has performed in several concert series in Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a member of the Talis Festival and Academy. She has played with various chamber groups in the New England area, such as the Andromeda Quintet and Monadnock Music.
In addition, Virginia currently serves as Chair of the Arts Department and Director of Instrumental Music at The Fenn School in Concord, MA. Also as an educator, Virginia has presented master classes at The Boston University Tanglewood Institute, The University of Akron and Tufts University. She considers her efforts in music education to be as important as her career on state.
Dr. Morales earned Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Brass Performance from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Texas at El Paso.
