Applied Research Opportunities

School psychologists apply a problem-solving, hypothesis-testing approach to service delivery, and all of our students gain mentored experiences using these this approach to conduct case studies during internship. These case studies address child-specific academic and mental/behavioral health needs and provide students with opportunities to hone their applied research skills.

Given that our program reflects a practitioner-scientist training model, our doctoral students also are expected to complete a dissertation based on original research. Doctoral students typically conduct applied research to address practical needs within schools in the year prior to internship. They receive individualized mentorship from a faculty advisor and support from a three-person dissertation committee throughout this process. Dissertations published by graduates of our program are available here.
