About MeMUNC
If you don’t see it answered here please contact us!
Every spring high school students from Maine and beyond gather for a three day conference on the Gorham campus of the University of Southern Maine for a United Nations simulation experience. The conference is facilitated by USM students enrolled in the course POS 445 MeMUNC Conference Planners.
Currently we only allow high schools to participate in the conference. This can be a class or a club as long as there is a teacher/advisor representing and supervising the group. The advisor will register the school and maintain communication with the directors, admin, and leadership of MeMUNC.
Registration is open at the end of January/early February. Schools that are on our participation list will get an email from our Secretary General notifying them of conference information and a link to our online registration form. If you are not on our participation list you may contact the MeMUNC admin to be added.
Students arrive with their school group on Wednesday afternoon and check in with registration where they will receive their badges, padfolios, room keys, and other information. The first night there is an opening ceremony event where we often have guest speakers and cover basics about the conference. Then students go to their first committee meetings and activities. The second day is full of committee meetings and in the evening there are a number of activities to choose from, among others there is always a dance with the DJ and trivia night with prizes. On the final day there are committee meetings in the morning and then a closing ceremony with awards. Interspersed throughout the days there are activities and, of course, breakfast, lunch and dinner served in the Brooks Dining Hall.
The conference fee of $225 per participant is all inclusive and includes housing, meals, activities, and materials. There is no fee for a school to register, but a deposit of $225 shortly after registration is required to receive country assignments. The final invoice is sent by the end of April, and the balance amount is due by the beginning of May. We only accept checks as payment, we cannot at this time accept credit cards or app payments.
