Westbrook Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Kim O’Donnell, BS’89, MS’95 and PhD’20 has published the chapter, “A Call to Action: Setting the Stage for Equity in the Classroom” in the 2021 book, Connecting Theory and Practice in Middle School Literacy. The chapter which relates to her doctoral work examines relevant educational policies and explores the need to recognize and support transgender and non-binary identities in the context of the classroom and offers a framework for teachers to support equity when planning lessons and considering content.
