Leadership gift from Martin’s Point Health Care supports student success

The University of Southern Maine Foundation has received a generous gift from Martin’s Point Health Care, a Founding Sponsor of the new McGoldrick Center for Career & Student Success on USM’s Portland campus. Martin’s Point Health Care is a Maine-based not-for-profit organization serving people throughout New England and beyond.

The McGoldrick Center Founding Sponsors program offers employer partners like Martin’s Point visibility and promotional opportunities in a central location at the heart of USM’s newly transformed Portland campus. USM will recognize their gift with a wall plaque outside the expanded Career and Employment Hub on the McGoldrick Center’s second floor. The Career Hub provides students with opportunities to connect with prospective employers or meet with their career counselors. Large multi-purpose meeting spaces, or salons, are available to host career fairs, employer presentations, banquets, and other events.

“At Martin’s Point Health Care our work is based on an unwavering commitment to our communities,” said Steve Amendo, Chief Marketing Officer at Martin’s Point. “As a long-time partner of USM, and as a founding partner of the McGoldrick Center, we are incredibly proud to be able to support the continued education and career potential for those who will shape the future of our communities.”

“Over many years, Martin’s Point has been a valued partner with USM, supporting important efforts that directly benefit our students and our community, such as the USM Student Emergency Fund, the Campus Food Pantry, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and now the McGoldrick Center for Career & Student Success,” said Ainsley Wallace, President and CEO of the USM Foundation. ”We are thrilled to recognized them as a McGoldrick Center Founding Sponsor.”

An official ribbon-cutting celebration for the McGoldrick Center is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27.  With its expansive dining area, Husky Brew Pub, University Book Store, Double L Fireside Lounge, and other public spaces on the first floor, the Center is available for community use and is expected to draw more than 800 people through its doors on a daily basis.

The third floor is dedicated to cultivating student leadership opportunities and connections with spaces set aside for USM’s Diversity Center, student organizations, Promise Scholars, and the Student Government Business Office.

The McGoldrick Center is among the most environmentally sustainable buildings on USM’s transforming Portland campus. It is a three-story, 42,000 square-foot space that is on track to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold certification. It overlooks the new campus quad, named the “Bean Green,” and sits adjacent to Portland Commons, the first residence hall on USM’s Portland campus.
