Madison Matewski is a USM sophomore majoring in linguistics and pursuing teacher licensure through the world languages pathway. She was honored with the Emerging Student Leader award at USM’s Spring 2023 Leadership Gala for her efforts to start the new Educators of Tomorrow! Club for undergraduates interested in education careers.
As she explains the achievement:
“I did not expect to be receiving an award in my first year of college, especially since I spend most of my time driving to or from class/work. When I found out that I had received the Emerging Student Leader Award I was thrilled. My time as a student leader in the Educators of Tomorrow! Club is fulfilling to my soul, and gives me something to look forward to each week. Being surrounded by people with a common goal of expanding our minds as future educators has helped me create my place at USM! I want to give a special thanks to my mentor, Dr. Ian Renga, for giving me a warm introduction to the Education Program and for his continual support in my pursuits.”
