The Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine is pleased to
announce the appointment of Amanda Rector as the new Chair of its Board of Visitors. Ms.
Rector, who has served as Maine’s State Economist since 2011, brings a wealth of experience
to the role.
In her capacity as State Economist, Amanda Rector conducts ongoing assessments of Maine’s
economic and demographic conditions to inform policy decisions. She is a member of the
state’s Revenue Forecasting Committee and serves as the Governor’s liaison to the U.S.
Census Bureau. Rector began her tenure with the state in 2004 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in
Economics from Wellesley College, as well as a Master of Public Policy and Management from
the Muskie School itself.
The Muskie School also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Charlie Micoleau, the outgoing Chair,
for his dedicated leadership and invaluable counsel. Charlie Micoleau’s tenure has been
instrumental in enhancing the Muskie School’s reputation and fostering its mission of public
service. A Bowdoin College alumnus, Charlie Micoleau earned his Master’s in International
Relations from Johns Hopkins University before joining Senator Edmund Muskie’s staff in 1970.
He later obtained his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law School.
The Muskie School of Public Service Board of Visitors serves as an advisory body to the Muskie
School, comprising distinguished professionals who provide strategic guidance and support to
advance the school’s mission of educating leaders, informing policy and practice, and
strengthening civic life.
With Amanda Rector’s appointment as Chair, the Muskie School looks forward to continued
growth and excellence in public service education and research.
