A 33 KW solar system was installed on the McGoldrick Center for Student Success, which is being constructed now on the Portland campus. The installation was done by local solar company Revision Energy, with two USM alums working on the installation team. The panels were funded from a generous donation from the Alfred Padula estate. Dr. Padula was a long-time professor at the University and a champion for renewable energy.
The solar array will provide photovoltaic electricity to the new building, helping to offset the electricity the building uses from fossil fuels. Next time you are on campus, you can view the panels above the porch by standing on the sidewalk at Bedford Street.
