Spotlight on Scholarship: Dr. Arcand’s research in Maine Policy Review

We are pleased to highlight that in the latest issue of Maine Policy Review (Vol. 34, Issue 1), Dr. Carolyn Arcand’s article titled “Reenvisioning Town Meetings as Accessible to Caregivers of Young Children” has become the journal’s most-downloaded paper since its publication. Read the article through the link above.

In this article, Dr. Arcand examines the barriers that parents and caregivers of young children face in participating in town meeting governance. She explores how meeting designs might be altered to encourage broader civic engagement and inclusive participation.

Dr. Arcand is an Assistant Professor in the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine, holding a master’s in Public Policy & Management from the Muskie School and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research focuses on care work, labor policy, and how public policy affects women’s working lives. We congratulate Dr. Arcand and look forward to her future scholarship contributions
