The University of Southern Maine utilizes license plate recognition (LPR) technology to assist in the management of campus parking. Parking enforcement refers to the use of LPR technology for monitoring and enforcing parking regulations. LPR systems utilize cameras to capture pictures of license plates and is viewed by a person vs. an automated process that pulls text from the plate. In the context of parking enforcement, LPR technology enables efficient and accurate identification of vehicles that are not complying with parking rules. It allows parking services & our vendor to read license plates and cross-reference them with permit databases or violation records.
