Collecting Scope
Special Collections acquires material culture supporting the University curriculum and capturing the history and culture of University of Southern Maine, African American communities of Maine, Jewish communities of Maine, and LGBTQ+ communities of Maine, including:
- printed material such as books, pamphlets, newspapers;
- unpublished documents such as letters, diaries;
- audio and audio-visual items such as records, tapes, movies;
- visual records such as photographs, posters, banners;
- objects such as buttons, t-shirts.
The collections focus on historical sources, excluding creative works of fiction or art, unless such works document the community.
