Thinking Ecological Responsibility: Marx and Species Being with Martin Hägglund
7th floor University Events Room in Glickman Library!
Martin Hägglund addresses fundamental philosophical questions concerning how we should understand our relation to nature. On the one hand, the ecological crisis underlines that we are organisms who depend on our environment and on other living beings. On the other hand, the ecological crisis underlines that we are a distinct kind of organism, since we can hold ourselves accountable for our relation to nature and acknowledge our fellow creatures as ends in themselves. By drawing on thinkers from Aristotle to Marx, Hägglund develops a new understanding of the human life-form and our ecological responsibility.
This event is free to the public; parking is $4.00 per hour. The lecture includes a question and answer session and a reception will follow.
The lecture and reception are scheduled in the 7th floor University Events Room in Glickman Library.
