Women’s Work: Historical & Contemporary Issues of Gendered Labor

Women’s labor is grossly undervalued across industries, and the women-dominated field of social work is especially impacted by gender inequality in the workforce. This Social Work Month, join the USM School of Social Work and our co-sponsors for a panel discussion exploring historical and contemporary issues of gendered labor. Panelists include Sarah Jaffe, renowned journalist and author of Work Won’t Love You Back. We’ll touch on the impact of unpaid internships on social work students, and brainstorm strategies for addressing this systemic issue in social work education. After the panel, visit with representatives from Maine Women’s Lobby, National Association of Social Workers Maine Chapter, Maine People’s Alliance, and the Frances Perkins Center.
