Internships

An internship is a professional learning experience that is outside of a specific academic program or course of study. Engaging in an internship offers students the chance to build valuable connections in their prospective career fields while providing employers the opportunity to mentor and assess emerging talent.

All students in this major are required to complete a 300 level internship course. For 300 level internships, students must have completed 54 credit hours (junior standing). 200 level internships students must have completed 24 credit hours (sophomore status).

When to take the course: Students should plan to complete their internships during their junior or senior year before graduating.

Internships should be acquired before the beginning of the semester.

Internships are a valuable advantage for students to extend their academic experience through associations within the visual arts community.  Internships provide students the opportunity to work with a variety of professionals, with individual artists, and scholars to institutions, organizations and/or businesses within their individual interests and future career goals.  Through the internship experience students will gain insight into and knowledge about professional life in their chosen field.

Possibilities for internships include, but are not limited to, practicing artists, scholars, galleries, arts-related businesses, museums, non-profit organizations, and cultural institutions.
