Deputy Chief Farwell is a native of Gorham, ME, and served his community as a Firefighter/EMT for 12 years. After attending Gorham schools, he enrolled in Criminal Justice coursework at Southern Maine Community College. He began work in 1997 as a dispatcher and later as a police officer for a coastal Maine town. Later, after several years as a deputy county sheriff, he began his service at the University of Southern Maine as a police officer in 2004. Wishing to further serve his country, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve and served from 2004-2011 at Naval Security Forces, Naval Air Station Brunswick, until its closure.
Deputy Chief Farwell is a graduate of the 9th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP) at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. In 2007 he was promoted to Sergeant, supervising shift operations and service delivery for the overnight and evening shifts. In 2019 he accepted a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant, commanding patrol operations and overseeing training, development, and professional standards for the department. In 2020 he accepted a promotion to the rank of Captain; in this role, he is the department’s Executive Officer, assisting the Chief of Police with department administration. And, in September 2023, he was promoted to Deputy Chief.
Deputy Chief Farwell is a designated Civil Rights Officer by the Attorney General’s office.
