Michele Kaschub is Professor of Music and Director of Music Teacher Education in the Osher School of Music. Earning degrees from the University of Southern Maine, University of Maine, and Northwestern University, Dr. Kaschub studied with music education luminaries Bennett Reimer, Peter Webster, and Donald Casey, as well as choral conductor and composer Robert Harris. Her current scholarly interests include children’s composition, composition pedagogy, choral music education, curriculum design, and the professional development of teachers at all levels.

Dr. Kaschub is co-author of Minds on Music: Composition for Creative and Critical Thinking (Rowman & Littlefield, 2009), Experiencing Music Composition in Grades K-2 (Rowman & Littlefield, 2022), Experiencing Music Composition in Grades 3-5 (Oxford University Press, 2016), and Experiencing Music Composition in Middle School General Music(Rowman & Littlefield, 2022). She is co-editor of Composing Our Future: Preparing Music Educators to Teach Composition (OUP, 2013) and Promising Practices in 21st Century Music Teacher Education (OUP, 2014), and editor of The Oxford Handbook of Music Composition Pedagogy (OUP, 2024). Dr. Kaschub has contributed chapters to multiple books addressing choral and general music education and has authored numerous articles for professional journals. Her forthcoming textbook, Developing Musical Capacities in Elementary General Music, will be published by Oxford University Press in 2025.

Dr. Kaschub has held numerous professional positions including President of the Maine Music Educators Association, Director of USM’s Center for Collaboration & Development, Repertoire & Standards contributor for the Choral Journal of the American Choral Directors Association, and Chair & Academic Editor of the National Association for Music Education’s Music Educators Journal. She has served as Artistic Director for The Boy Singers of Maine and has conducted choral festivals across Maine and throughout New England. 

An active clinician and guest lecturer, Dr. Kaschub has presented papers and workshops at colleges and conferences in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., as well as internationally in Canada, England, Ireland, and Germany.
