Jamie Picardy, PhD

Dr. Jamie Ann Picardy is an Associate Professor within the Food Studies and Honors Programs at the University of Southern Maine. She also is the Associate Director for the Honors Program. She completed her PhD (2015) at Tufts University in the Agriculture, Food and Environment Program through the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Jamie earned an MS in Geography (2001) and a BS in Biosystems Agricultural Engineering (1998), both from Michigan State University. As a curriculum developer, she has established food studies, geography and agricultural literacy programs. Jamie recently served on the network team of Food Solutions New England with annual contributions to the 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge. Jamie integrates community-engaged, applied research into her undergraduate and graduate courses within the areas of regional seafood/meat value chains, food waste recovery, food security, racial equity, and economic development of food businesses. For this work, she has received the Maine Campus Compact’s Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence. This award recognizes faculty who make public service an integral part of their curriculum, create reciprocal partnerships with communities, and advocate for service-learning.
