- Police Lieutenant
Lt. Cox started with USM Public Safety in October of 2021. He comes to USM from Windham PD. Lt. Cox started his 38 year law enforcement career fresh out of High School in 1986, starting with a small town PD in the town of Veazie just outside of Bangor. After 2 years with Veazie he went to the Orono Police Department for a year before starting his full time career with the Windham Police Department where he worked 31and a half years. He retired from Windham and did a short stint with the Judicial Marshal Service before starting with USM.
After high school Lt. Cox opted for education through experience as he has never been one learn from sitting in a classroom. He would like to use my experience in Law Enforcement to help make USMPD a good and enjoyable place to work. When not at work he enjoys exploring the back roads and woods of Maine with my wife and spending time at our land in Western Maine. Because Maine has so much to offer, Lt. Cox doesn’t like leaving the state too much. If he could have a drink with anyone he would definitely say it would have to be his father who died when he was young. He learned through life that he was a gunner/armorer on a B-17 during WWII and flew missions in Europe during the war. He never spoke to anyone about his service but he would love to hear about it from him. And although he doesn’t consider it weird or strange he has peanut butter and mustard on my hotdog (don’t knock it til you try it!!).
Lt Cox is a designated Civil Rights Officer by the Attorney General’s office.
