A Catalyst for Transformation
The USM Foundation works side by side with the University of Southern Maine to support the aspirations of our students and the strategic vision of USM.
The Foundation is helping to expand access to education for students and strengthen pathways to academic and career success by:
- Raising the critical funds needed to support scholarships and other academic needs
- Tapping into our powerful alumni network
- Collaborating with our community and employers partners.
Through the generosity of our donors, we are able to give more students the opportunity to excel in their studies, realize their potential, and build fulfilling lives as they contribute their talents to Maine’s workforce.
Why Giving Matters
- More than 42% of first-year undergraduates at USM are first-generation students
- Nearly 60% of undergraduates receive scholarships each year to offset their costs
- About 39% are eligible for Pell Grants, targeted to low-income families
- USM awards $12.5 million in scholarships annually
- $23,007 was the average student debt for USM graduates in 2023
