Now under construction on USM’s Portland campus, the 43,000 square foot Crewe Center for the Arts is a sustainably designed performing and visual arts facility that will be a hub of community arts and culture in southern Maine. The Center will expand and enrich engagement in the arts for students of all disciplines at one of the most diverse public universities in our region.
As the new home of the Dr. Alfred and D. Suzi Osher School of Music, the Center will include accessible, state-of-the-art spaces and equipment that meet the learning and performance needs of our music students and faculty, as well as serving arts and cultural organizations in our region. In addition to classroom, rehearsal, and practice spaces, the Center will also feature a performance hall, art gallery, visual arts studio, sculpture garden, and outdoor performance spaces.
On track to open in fall 2025, the Crewe Center will be the crown jewel of the University’s newly redeveloped Portland campus, ushering in a new era of sight and sound at USM.
“It is particularly meaningful that the Crewe Center is being built at a public university, where more than 42% of undergraduates are first-generation college students and 85% receive scholarship aid. In line with USM’s mission focused on upward mobility, the Crewe will provide the highest quality facilities and learning opportunities in the arts for our students.”

Take a Seat at “The Crewe”
You can be part of this iconic new building forever by naming a seat in the Performance Hall or the Arts Lab. It’s a wonderful way to honor or memorialize someone in your life.
The Crewe Legacy
The Crewe Center name honors music legend, Bob Crewe, the songwriter behind many of the Four Seasons’ biggest hits, and his brother and manager, Daniel Crewe, arts champion and Maine philanthropist. A $6 million gift from the Crewe Foundation helped launch the Crewe Center project.
Support the Crewe Center for the Arts Campaign
To date, with the help of friends, alumni, and community partners, we’ve raised more than $20 million to support the Crewe Center building project. Looking ahead, our goal is to raise $5.9 million to complete “The Crewe” and begin a new era of sight and sound at USM in 2025.
