IDEC Mission Statement

The Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity Council (IDEC) is an action-oriented group of students, faculty, and staff. IDEC partners with University leadership, departments, and organizations to engage our community in creating and sustaining a safe, inclusive, diverse, anti-oppressive, anti-racist university for people of all identities. IDEC works to create equitable structures, policies, practices, and programming.

Making a mega difference with IDEC mini-grants

Twelve recipients in our USM community received a mini-grant of up to $500 to fund programs or events supporting the mission of IDEC. Learn more about each project awarded with a grant.

The work of the committees

IDEC committees address issues regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, & belonging (DEIAB) and mediate solutions in various focus areas around the University.

IDEC Student Fellows

Serving on IDEC’s Student Experience Committee, these undergraduate and graduate students steer campus forums, engage in intercultural program planning, and work directly with University leadership to advocate for the needs of students and the wider community.

Did you know over 100 students, faculty, and staff are members of IDEC?

Land Acknowledgment

We recognize that we are on indigenous land. In addition to the Abenaki, the broader place we now call Maine is home to the sovereign people of the Wabanaki Confederacy: the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, and Mi’kmaq peoples. We exist in their unceded homelands.
