The LA training program prepares LAs to engage and support students enrolled in any course using the Learning Assistant model. It integrates learning theory with practice, emphasizing the application of both areas to the LA role. The program consists of an intensive foundational training at the beginning of the semester, followed by a series of hourly cohort meetings throughout the semester where LAs participate in discussions and reflect on their practice. Concepts include learning theory and research, active learning strategies, listening and questioning approaches, group facilitation practices, and connecting students with resources.

First-time LAs are required to participate in the initial training program, and returning LAs can choose from an array of professional development activities. Experienced LAs can serve in a mentoring capacity, assisting with the onboarding and support of new LAs. All LAs are paid for every hour of training, professional development, and service.
