The USM LILAC team presented their work at the Eighteenth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences July 2023 at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England. The LILAC team (Launching into Life After College) is Jeanette Andonian, Associate Dean and Professor of Social Work; David Bantz, Part-time Professor of Computer Science; Dennis Gilbert, Primary Lecturer in Media Studies; and Leonard Shedletsky, Professor of Communication.
Recognizing that more attention is needed on the psychosocial and developmental dimensions that students experience, the LILAC team developed a credit-bearing interdisciplinary seminar evidenced to reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence in students set to embark on a post-college life path. The team shared the process for creating the course, CMS 401/ COR 400: Launching Into Life After College along with data and findings. A toolkit was provided for conference participants to allow for the replication or adaptation of the course in other educational settings.
Course originators are currently working on making the LILAC course available as an Open Education Resource (OER).
