The Place Matters team at USM’s Catherine Cutler Institute has released a new report titled The History of Philanthropic Wealth in Maine.
Developed in partnership with the Maine Philanthropy Center and the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation, this report invites readers to explore the complex truths about extractive histories and the connections to modern-day philanthropic structures, encouraging reflection and consideration of more restorative approaches to giving.
The Place Matters project supports the design, implementation, and evaluation of a community-based continuum of care through systems innovation, community-centered data resources, storytelling, and community learning and engagement. While Place Matters staff work on a variety of projects, the main focus of the project is supporting transition-aged young people, children of incarcerated parents, families, and individuals who have been impacted by the criminal legal and behavioral health systems in Maine.
