Pianist Mesa Schubeck to perform as soloist with Midcoast Symphony Orchestra

Osher School of Music (OSOM) student Mesa Schubeck, from Blue Hill, Maine, will perform the Piano Concerto in A Minor by Edvard Grieg with the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra on Jan. 14 and 15 at the Franco Center in Lewiston and at the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham.

Mesa is pursuing a master’s degree with Laura Kargul at the Osher School of Music. In April of 2022, she took the top prize at the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra’s Judith Elser Concerto Competition, a statewide competition open to all college-level instrumentalists and vocalists.

Mesa was also a winner in the 2020 OSOM concerto competition, playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D Minor, K.466.

Mesa is a multi-talented young artist with a background not only in classical piano but also in voice, and she is well-versed in pop/rock, jazz, soul, musical theater, and traditional American folk music. She joined the faculty at the Gould Academy in Bethel from 2020 to 2022.  She now teaches full-time at 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth.
