Professor Recognized for Service at International Conference

The organizers of the ACM 2025 Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (held in Pittsburgh, PA, from February 26 to March 1) chose to recognize some members of the review team for Outstanding Service. Professor David Levine was among twenty (out of over 100) Associate Program Chairs (APC) so recognized.

Each research paper undergoes a thorough double-blind review process. During this process, each paper is assigned to three to five experienced reviewers, who assess the paper based on quality, originality, methodology, and relevance. This peer review process ensures the highest academic standards and the conference’s integrity. After the reviewers submit their detailed reviews, they are matched anonymously with an Associate Program Chair (APC). The APC is critical in leading a comprehensive discussion about the paper, facilitating feedback, and providing insightful guidance to the reviewers.

The APC is responsible for writing a concise and balanced summary review of the paper, which is shared with the reviewers and the author(s) of the paper. This review helps authors understand the feedback and make necessary revisions, ensuring the overall quality and impact of the work. This year, the conference saw the participation of over 950 dedicated reviewers and more than 100 Associate Program Chairs, all of whom played a crucial role in maintaining the conference’s high standards.

After the review process is complete, the conference organizers encourage reviewers to highlight any outstanding APCs who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and skill in shepherding papers through the rigorous review process. The Program Chairs use this feedback to determine which APCs should be recognized for their contributions.

Professor Levine, a distinguished academic in his field, has attended this esteemed conference more than twenty-five times throughout his career. Over the years, he has presented his research a dozen times in various formats. His extensive involvement in the conference underscores his commitment to advancing research and knowledge in his area of expertise.
