The University of Southern Maine (USM) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs and certificates that are fully achievable online. They meet the rigorous standards of our traditional face-to-face degree programs and are taught by USM faculty.

Enrollment Support for Online Programs

Find the online program that's right for you with help from an Admissions Counselor. We understand that coming back to school to finish a degree can be stressful and confusing. One of our friendly and welcoming counselors will assist you throughout the inquiry, application, and admission process to offer you a personalized admissions experience. We will connect with you based on your communication preference, be it video chat, email, phone, or text.

Transfer your prior academic credits

Transfer Your Prior Academic Credits

Get a head start on completing your degree by transferring prior academic credits to USM. The Admissions office will review your transcript and offer guidance with program and course selection. After you are admitted, the Office of Transfer Affairs will complete an official transfer credit evaluation to ensure your credits are utilized and applied appropriately.

Gain academic credit for skills and knowledge you've acquired on the job, during military service, or through community engagement. Our Office for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) has developed systematic ways to assess your learning competencies in a supportive atmosphere, supplying the academic bridge that effectively and efficiently connects practical and theoretical knowledge.

Veterans Upward Bound

As part of our commitment to support veterans, this federally funded pre-college program offers eligible veterans individualized assistance — both in-person and online — with college applications, financial aid, VA benefits, tutoring, and more. Participating veterans can also earn a small stipend!
