In Lewiston: If someone needs to leave a vehicle on campus outside of normal building hours they should notify LAC facilities ahead of time by emailing them at lac@maine.edu or call them at 207-753-6536.

Due to changes and requirements at University of Maine System and USM Administration levels, the application needs to be filled out each time you apply for a parking permit. As well as, you have to sign the application which shows that you acknowledge your responsibilities of having a parking permit. Furthermore, the application keeps your contact and vehicle’s information up-to-date for both Parking Services and Public Safety.

This is for anyone who applies for a parking permit, even previously.

Online: While there is no paper form, you are filling out an electronic form. You also electronically sign it when you check mark the permit agreement boxes when you select your permit.

Plate class is what your type of plate you have on your vehicle.

Maine has many different plates in circulation.

~ For example, have you seen this Maine plate with a farmer and child on it?

    Maine's Agriculture Specialty Plate

This plate is a way for people to promote and/or support the education of Maine's Agriculture.

⇒ You will find your plate class to the left of your plate number on your vehicle's registration (upper right hand corner) as shown below.

Maine Registration Sample - Location of Plate Class

⇒ Don't have your vehicle's registration next to you?

    Check out the following:

    • Here are Maine's Popular small pdf icon ones.
    • Here are a few other types small pdf icon.
      • How to find your vehicle’s plate class information for the parking permit application: find your plate on this PDF and use the red two letters to the right of the photo to use on the application.
    • Still not seeing your plate type? Check out Maine's BMV for the full list

Are you driving a vehicle registered in a different State than Maine?

Unfortunately, if your State offers different type of plates like Maine, this information can not be added to your vehicle's record with us, as the Plate Class field is arranged to Maine's Plate Class types only.

~ As such, for all Out-of-State (non-Maine) plates, use PC as your plate class.

You must notify Parking Services if you lost your permit before applying for a replacement permit.

If you lose your parking permit (hang tag), a replacement can be purchased for $22.00, this is non-negotiable. We accept Cash, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, or Check (made out to USM or Univeristy  of Southern Maine).

    Student Bill Information

The 2021-2022 academic year fees have changed. The Comprehensive Fee is charged to all students and there will be no additional cost to students to get their permits.

Starting 2021-2021 academic year, USM Fees through the Tuition and Fees of attending University of Southern Maine were changed. The new Comprehensive Fee was formed and it covers fixed costs of providing educational and student services not already supported by tuition. This includes the former separated Transportation Fee.

Location of your Student Bill online: Is found by logging in to your MaineStreet, selecting Student Self-Service, then choosing Student Center. In your Student Center, look to the left of your screen for the Finances section. Select the Account Activity link, this is where you will check to see if you were charged a Comprehensive Fee.

    Permit Receipt Information

Did you receive a permit receipt from us with your permit and wondering why there is a listed fee on it?

No need to be concerned about the fee you see on your receipt. There is no additional cost for your permit as it is built into your Comprehensive Fee on your Student Bill as indicated above.

    • Note that citations (parking violations) are another topic.

The fee is a reference placeholder for the Parking Software we use. A price is needed to “sell” you a parking permit. This lets the Parking Software know how it was sold.

    • We do process other types of permits that are used at USM which are sold by direct payment of cash, credit card, check, etc.

As such, you, the student, should see the wording of  SFS (Comprehensive Fee) Reference: or Paid by Comprehensive Fee  listed under the Total Due, this is your form of payment. Hence, the Parking Software recognizes the permit was sold to you via the Comprehensive Fee.

If out of curiosity, why the amount is specific listed, it is the former separated Transportation Fee that was used to sell permits to students before Fall 2021 based on the student’s current semester credit hours.

    • As in:    1-3 credits = $55;    4-11 credits = $83;    12+ credits = $110.

Resident students, students living on campus, Residential Life (a.k.a. Res Life).

For Employees ... we will mail your permit via USPS or USM Mail Services.

    • If using the Parking Portal, do not forget to fill out the Employees Google Form found on the last page called Payment Receipt.
      • This will let us know a permit is sold and where to sent it. Without filling this out, there will be a delay in receiving your parking permit.
    • If you filled out one of the above forms, make sure you have your current mailing address on the form. If you like it mailed to your Office, please make a note on the application.

Note for current USM employees: If you have taken or taking a course or courses, our Parking software will convert you to a student. If you are on the Parking Portal and see yourself as a student, please email us at usmparkingservices@maine.edu with your ID number and let us know if you are a full-time or part-time employee. We will manually change you back to employee so you can buy your correct permit online. Do not purchase the Student Parking Permit.
