Robin K Scholarship Program

Robin K Fund, with dragonfly logo
In memory of Robin K, a Maine educator, dedicated to bringing quality STEM education to Maine youth.

USM STEM Outreach & Services is pleased to offer multiple summer camp scholarships every season, paid for by the “Robin K Fund”. The full lineup of our current camp offerings can be found at the USM STEM Outreach Camp Registration Page.

Completed applications must include:

  • Complete application form (1 page)
  • Letter from camper, signed (1 page)
  • Letter from parent/guardian (1 page)
  • Don’t make the letters complicated

Preference will be given to camper’s who can articulate their wishes and to parent’s who can articulate the need.

All scholarship application packages must include:

  1. Completed scholarship application form
    1. Includes which camps you are requesting. See more info in small print section.
  2. Letters of interest and need:
    1. A letter from the camper must be submitted explaining why they want to attend a USM STEM outreach camp and their interest in STEM.
    2. Letters may not be more than 1 page and must include camper’s full name and their address. Letter must be signed by camper.
    3. A letter from the parent or sponsoring guardian, explaining why a scholarship is needed to attend a USM STEM Outreach camp. Letter must be signed by parent or guardian.
    4. Letters should not be more than 1 page and must include parent or guardian’s name and the camper’s name.

Applications are due by April 6th, 2024.

The review committee will aim to have the applications completed and awards announced by April 30th.

Incomplete application package (incomplete forms or any missing required documents) will not be considered. All applications will be processed as they are received until the funds have been allocated.

If you apply for a scholarship and indicate camps that are currently full, or full at the time of decision, you will be ineligible for consideration. Camp enrollment and age requirements can be checked online at USM/STEM Outreach Summer Camps (applicants are encouraged to list more than one to avoid ineligibility). Application decision timeline and submission deadline will be available in the spring.

If you have any questions, please email stemcamps@maine.edu. Indicate “Robin K Scholarship Question” in the subject line.

  • Scholarship winner refers to the camper and the camper family.
  • The maximum value of the scholarship will be $200. If the camp cost is greater than the scholarship amount, any difference is the responsibility of the Scholarship winner.
  • If the camp cost is less than the scholarship amount, any difference is surrendered back to the scholarship fund
  • Scholarships cannot be used on existing registrations without prior approval.
  • We reserve the right to stop the application process if the number of applications is overwhelming to our review committee.  Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first serve basis for those which meet the Scholarship rules.
  • All applicant families must be from the state of Maine.
  • All applicant campers must attend school in the State of Maine, or be homeschooled in the state of Maine.
  • All applicant campers must be between the ages of 6 and 16 (at the time of camp this summer). Not all locations have programs for all ages.
  • All Scholarship winners will be given a code that will allow them to register with the amount of the scholarship covered.
  • No cash award is made to the scholarship winner.
  • Scholarship winner is responsible for completion of the registration process, including all release forms; medical information; and any additional payments that may be required.
  • Registration is still contingent on space in the desired programs. If the camp desired is full, contact STEM Outreach & Services to discuss options. Be prepared to choose second choices as needed.
  • Individual campers may only be awarded this scholarship once, but you may apply again in subsequent years if you are not awarded. For such subsequent applications you are still required to complete the entire process for that year.
  • “No Award Receipt” acknowledgement will be provided after all awards have been used.  Should an applicant winner not accept the scholarship a runner up will be selected.
  • Scholarship winners will be contacted by phone and email.
