This page provides help with some of the most common questions students ask about the TRIO College Programs.
TRIO offers different services such as individual guidance, peer mentoring programs, and various educational/social events. Your TRIO community is here to support you through your undergraduate degree, and your TRIO advisor can be your first point of contact when having questions.
It has been stressful to think about the different assignments and exams that are coming up. Your first action is to calm down and realize that many students are in the same boat as you. To reduce stress and better manage time, consider meeting with your TRIO advisor to discuss strategies and set a plan. There are numerous time management techniques that may resonate with you.
Additionally, the Learning Commons offers “Peer Academic Coaches who can assist with learning strategies such as time management, reading a college textbook efficiently, and preparing for exams.” Check out the Learning Commons to schedule a meeting with a Peer Academic Coach. Remember that USM offers subject-based and writing assistance tutors; book an appointment here.
Every student at USM has a financial aid counselor who can answer financial-related questions. Counselors are assigned based on students’ last names. Visit Student Financial Services to learn who is your counselor.
USM Students can reserve group study rooms on all campuses; they are usually located in libraries. Refer to the Group Study Rooms for further information
If you do not get selected this year and you qualify then your records will be kept on a waiting list for the next available space. We will contact you as space opens.
There is no cost to the student or family to join the program. Services provided to TRIO College Program students, including the Summer Program, trips, tutoring services, and workshops are provided free of charge by the US Department of Education.
