The Arts on Our Gorham Campus

A 70-year legacy of artistic excellence

The University of Southern Maine (USM) Gorham campus continues to thrive as the hub of theatre and visual arts at USM — fostering creativity, performance, and community engagement.

Performance on a grand stage

Theatre students bring productions to life at Russell Hall — rehearsing, designing, choreographing, and building — in a vibrant artistic community.

With the renovated Black Box Theater, expanded Corthell Hall studios, and the Bill Dufris Memorial Voiceover Studio, students gain professional, hands-on experience in performing arts, voice acting, and audio storytelling.

Creative studios for every purpose

USM’s nationally accredited Art Department offers hands-on studio training that fosters creative thinking and critical analysis, preparing students for diverse and rewarding future careers.

Visual art majors work in dedicated studios in Robie-Andrews Hall and the historic Academy Building, with fully equipped spaces for ceramics, sculpture, photography, digital design, painting, and drawing.

An art gallery where history meets the contemporary

Housed in a striking 1821 building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Art Gallery at USM offers a dynamic space where contemporary art meets historic architecture.

The gallery features rotating exhibitions by professional and regional artists, faculty and staff showcases, and two major student shows each year: the Juried Student Exhibition and the BFA/BA capstone exhibition.
