On the Portland and Gorham campuses, we are open from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 1:00pm to 4:30pm on Tuesday during the Fall and Spring Semesters. On the Lewiston campus, we are open from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. We offer limited services during the summer sessions and academic breaks.

For emergencies, please dial 911 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.

Yes. Counseling is confidential with the exceptions that follow: if there is indication of harm to self or other; if there is indication of abuse to a child or an incapacitated elder; or if the court subpoenas records.

We are unable to service people physically located outside of Maine.

Call 207-780-4050 and our administrative staff will schedule you with a counselor as soon as there is an appointment available.

Appointments will be scheduled as soon as there is an opening. At our busy times, students may have to wait for up to three weeks for an initial appointment. If there is an emergency, our associates will see to it that an appointment is scheduled that same day.

Counseling Services is staffed by psychologists, licensed clinicians, and several graduate level interns. You will be scheduled with the first person who has an available appointment unless you request to see someone of a certain gender, a person of color, a specific staff person, or an intern.

You can transfer to another counselor at any time.

Yes, we typically do. Due to the high demand for regular counseling, we are not offering groups for the Fall 2023 Semester. Please check back in the Spring 2024 Semester for new groups!

No, but we can facilitate a referral to an appropriate provider.

We do not write letters of support for ESAs.

Counseling is not included in tuition/fees. However, we do accept a number of insurances and offer free care for those without insurance, are underinsured, or have other financial constraints. We do not want finances to be a barrier to our services.

We are currently accepting Harvard Pilgrim, Cigna, Anthem, Aetna, Community Health Options, and MaineCare. We recommend that you contact your insurance directly to confirm that mental health counseling is covered under your plan and find out about any deductibles or expected copays.
