Why does USM get involved in voter registration?
The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) requires UMS campuses to make available registration forms to all enrolled students. This federal and state legislation supports USM’s goals of engendering leadership and citizenship among our University community.
Am I eligible to register to vote?
In order to register to vote you must be a citizen of the United States, and at least 18 years of age at the time of the next election.
As a college student living away from home, where should I register?
You may register to vote either at your college address, or at your hometown, parent or caregiver’s address. If you register at your hometown address and want to vote while attending college, you must remember to request an absentee ballot at least 30 days before the election. Check with your state election board for the exact deadline.
Students living in a residence hall should use the name of the specific residence hall as their address.

How do I register to vote?
The Student Affairs Division sponsors a non-partisan voter registration, depending on the national, state and local elections schedule. In addition, voter registration forms are available year-round at all 3 campuses. Students can find registration forms or voter information at the Student Affairs office in 135 Woodbury Campus Center or 188 Upton Hall and at the Student Success Center in LAC.
When is the last day I may register to vote for an election?
Although an eligible citizen may register to vote at any time, no person is eligible to vote unless they are registered on or before Election Day depending on which state they are registered to vote.
When is it necessary to re-register to vote?
You need to re-register if you move, change your name, wish to change political party affiliations, or if your signature has changed.
