Special Collections

Special Collections collects and preserves rare materials, including books, manuscripts, photographs, and artifacts. The Department is made up of three collections: General Rare Books and Manuscripts, the University Archives, and the Jean Byers Sampson Center for Diversity in Maine.

Osher Map Library & Smith Center for Cartographic Education

Osher Map Library & Smith Center for Cartographic Education  preserves cartographic heritage locally and globally and makes that heritage accessible to all through educational outreach and programming.

Franco-American Collection

This Collection preserves and promotes the culture and heritage of Maine’s Franco-American population. Their focus is on Lewiston-Auburn and other areas of Maine, with additional regional materials providing a link to the wider contexts of French North America.
