The University of Southern Maine’s Department of Computer Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Arciero as a new member of the faculty and the leader of the Master of Science in Data Science program.
Dr. Arciero brings extensive experience in data science education, curriculum development, and academic program leadership. Throughout his career, he has helped develop and expand undergraduate and graduate programs designed to prepare students for careers in data science, analytics, and emerging technologies.
Prior to joining USM, Dr. Arciero played a key role in the development of data science education at the University of Rhode Island, where he contributed to the creation and growth of undergraduate and graduate programs in data science. His experience developing innovative academic pathways and interdisciplinary programs will be an important asset as USM continues to strengthen its data science offerings.
As leader of the M.S. in Data Science program, Dr. Arciero will help guide the continued growth of the program, support curriculum development, and expand opportunities for students through research, experiential learning, and connections with industry and community partners.

The M.S. in Data Science at the University of Southern Maine prepares students with the computational, statistical, and analytical skills needed to work with complex data and address real-world challenges. The program emphasizes areas including data analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making.
Dr. Arciero joins USM at an exciting time for computing and data science education. The Department of Computer Science continues to expand opportunities for students through innovative programs, research experiences, and partnerships that connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
