USM Hosts AMC Competition

The University of Southern Maine (USM) Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science host the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC-10 and AMC-12) on the USM Portland campus. The competitions, organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), give middle and high school students from Maine and the surrounding region an opportunity to participate in a national mathematics competition.

The AMC-10 and AMC-12 are mathematics competitions that challenge students to apply problem-solving, logical reasoning, and mathematical creativity. The AMC-10 is designed for students in grades 10 and below, while the AMC-12 is open to students in grades 12 and below. Students participate through schools and other approved testing sites, including USM.

Hosting the AMC-10 and AMC-12 in Portland, Maine, is part of USM’s commitment to supporting mathematics education and providing students with opportunities to engage with mathematics beyond the classroom. The competitions also bring students to a university campus and introduce them to the academic environment at the University of Southern Maine.

USM’s Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science welcome students participating in the AMC and are pleased to support mathematics education in Maine.
